Travel and back

The US trip materialized at the last moment and I managed to have the worst traveling experience till date (of course barring the hijacking). The Air France flight started off late from Bangalore, we missed our connection from Paris to San Francisco. It was more like they didn't want us to take that flight, as there were no Air France officials to expedite our progress through the security checks. The plane was still at the tarmac but we were denied boarding.

6 hours later with a meagre food coupon to see us through, we were put on a flight to Houston from where we were supposed to take another flight to SFO. With only 40 minutes to go through the customs we rushed through the airport, checking out and checking in our bags only to find out the flight was delayed by 2.5 hours. The whole airport was closed as it was past 9:30pm and we waited hungry and tired for the last flight.

Boarded the last leg of the flight, we finally reached SFO in the middle of the night. Rented the car at the airport (at least here there was no queue as it was almost 1:00am) and reached our hotel at around 2:00am. Only 12 hours later than we were scheduled to arrive.

The weather in SFO was dreary, wet and windy. After a hectic 12 days, we started back on Thursday morning. Again to go through a harrowing time.

This time our first flight, from SFO to Cincinnati was delayed by an hour, which meant we had only 5 minutes to change flights in Cincinnati. Again we went crazy speculating what it would take to finally reach home. At the Cincinnati airport we literally ran from terminal B10 to B27, but Delta Airlines was good enough to wait for us. We wondered, if we had to run to make it onto the flight, if our luggage would make it. But I was glad to be on the flight, glad to be home. Surprising the baggage also made it in time.

Finally we made it to Paris and boarded the Paris Bangalore flight and made it back to home. I wonder how I could have enjoyed long airline flights earlier.. perhaps that's what age does to you :)

And then again 3 after I was back, we had to make a hurried trip to Calcutta, wherein we visited Burdhwaan, Digha and Calcutta. It was a quick trip, but we were impressed with the city. Ananya loved the beaches at Digha and it was a welcome change from the hustle bustle of Bangalore.

Now it is back to the routine of office and back. But routine is good.
